The posture of Thanksgiving

Have we ever really thought about what it means to give thanks? Why do we do it? How do we do it? When should we do it? If you're like me, I think about giving thanks after something has been given or on one day a year when we sit around the table and say one thing we are thankful for. However, that's not what we are called to do. We are called to give thanks to the Lord while we are IN it. I am on day 5 of a bible study with the Sisterhood group and it's focus is 21 days of giving thanks. Today I'm chosing to write about day 3. Day 3 talks about the posture we should have when we are giving thanks to the Lord. As you listen to this song, think through what you have that you can be thankful for. Not as a response, but as in this moment something the Lord is doing in your life that you can thank Him for through it.

Now, we are going to do an activity that I've recently learned. While at Sisterhood this week, I was taught how to SOAP the bible. Now, for those of you in medical, this is going to be a little tougher than you might think because SOAP is an acronym used in documentation of medical notes too. Lets try and not get caught up in what we know by being open to a new process.

As we do this, we will concentrate on the following scriptures. Just pick one and follow the steps above. I'll do one as well so you can see my way.

Verses:

  • 2 Chronicles 6:13-14
  • Psalm 100: 1-5
  • Lamentations 3:22-23
  • 1 Timothy 4:4-5
  • Philippians 2: 1-11
Scripture: For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. 1 Timothy 4:4

Observation: For me what stood out is "For everything created by God is good." If I think on this for a moment, I am reminded that everything I am is good. Everything I have is good. Everything touched by the Lord is a good thing if we receive it with thankfulness in our hearts.

Application: I can apply this passage by applying a mindset of thanksgiving in my life. Rather than grumbling when something doesn't go the way I want it to, thanking the Lord for waht is going on in my life will get me to where Jesus wants me to be.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be more thankful in my everyday life.

I hope you have enjoyed this little exercise and I hope you will do this with me on a regular basis.

The importance of connections

Many times, we don't take the opportunity in life to think about connections. Much like the way legos connect to erect the building or vehicle you are trying to create, without connecting pieces, our lives would fall apart. It's not often that we take time to reflect on those connections in meaningful ways. If I am honest, when we moved from Indiana back to Florida, we didn't appreciate the connections we had and so as I look back I wonder what life would have been like if we'd not only appreciated those connections, but supported them in meaningful ways.  Since moving to Greenville, not only have we made connections, but we've made it a part of life to connect with those people we've met that have become more like family than friends. We took the time to find a church that really believes in connecting with their people and not in a way that makes the patrons of the church feel like they are just a player in the game of chess and that player's job is to be

Workout #27

So, here's the challenge. And above, you can see my entry. Kenzie had done crosswords or circle a words (I can't remember) with Gigi and I snapped a pic of her doing it. I absolutely love the design of the sketch we were supposed to use for this lo. It allows for a simple, yet stunning layout. It allows room for journaling as you can see that I added as well as plenty of negative space! And the breakdown goes like this, picture was taken from my collection, background paper was from k and company the best of k and company pad, the circles were literally just picked out of my scrap box. I didn't even look at the papers, i just did a random pick. the lettering was taken from an old sheet of alphas i had and I think they worked out great!!! Simple yet Stunning! Thank you Scrap Fit for the challenge.
