Birthday Bummer!

Hey all! How are you all? I have had much better days. After all of the prep and working so hard on Maddie's 1st birthday cake, we had a no show for the party. Mom was the only person who showed up and I think that was just because she knew that no one else had come. She called me and I told her that no one showed, so 2 hours late, she came over. I was happy that some one was there with Maddie when she had her cake. This was the first step in the decorations. I chose purple, pink, orange and yellow decorations.
And for step two, I added accents to the flowers and bodies to the butterflies.
Then baked and iced the cake in light blue icing. I then let it sit and crust over so that I could smooth it over.
Add the second layer, ice it, let it crust. Smooth it over, add the grass border to both layers. I really liked this effect.
I did the final finishing touches to the cake by adding the butterflies and flowers to the cake and the cake board. I then wrote Happy 1st Birthday Maddie on the board by the cake. I sure was happy with the result. A close up of the cake. Now you can see a little better what it looked like. I sure do hope that Maddie will like it at this point! The birthday girl. Isn't she so cute! I love you Maddie and I know that no one showed up, but we have lots of pics of you and you will know that mommy loves you so very much! I did all this for you not for the people we invited. There will be other birthdays where you will have your friends. Crazy girls! They love their balloons!
WHAT A HAMMMMMMM! Kenzie totally loved posing for a pic in the balloons! I couldn't resist putting this one in here! "Mommy, why didn't they come to my party?" "It's my party and I'll pout if I want to" I think both of those would sum up the look on her face here! Priceless.
What a difference a balloon will make! She loves balloons. She talked to them for ages!
More balloons! I love ballooons! The balloon Baby!
Cake Time! Mmmmmmmmmm!Mommy, this is so yummy. Why did I have to wait a year for it?
She was totally enjoying her cake. Look at the hand in the mouth!
Mmmmm! More cake!
I am getting full Mommy!Ooooooh. Ice Cream! Yummy!
Look a clean baby! She had a bath right after the cake! She really needed it!
Would you look at that hair! It was insane!
So now off to the rest of the happenings. Not much going on. Now that the birthday party is over, I will be planning some landscaping outside to keep me busy. I can't wait to get that project started. Kenzie is out of school, so I need to come up with some stuff to keep her eyes off of the tv. She just wants to watch it all the time. Maddie is Maddie. What can I say about her. Ryan is busy with Maxx. Golfing, Pool, etc. And I guess that sums our life up in a nutshell. Talk to everyone later!
Love,
~Dawn~

  2. I tried to do the pattern transfer with shrek and donkey, but the weather was just too warm and my icing got too sticky. I ended up taking off almost the whole top layer of icing when i peeled off the transfer :( i was so fraustrated, i did most of the shrek free hand and all of donkey free hand, it was difficult and my hands were killing me by the time i was done, lol!! But it was all worth it, they absolutly loved the cake!

The importance of connections

Many times, we don't take the opportunity in life to think about connections. Much like the way legos connect to erect the building or vehicle you are trying to create, without connecting pieces, our lives would fall apart. It's not often that we take time to reflect on those connections in meaningful ways. If I am honest, when we moved from Indiana back to Florida, we didn't appreciate the connections we had and so as I look back I wonder what life would have been like if we'd not only appreciated those connections, but supported them in meaningful ways.  Since moving to Greenville, not only have we made connections, but we've made it a part of life to connect with those people we've met that have become more like family than friends. We took the time to find a church that really believes in connecting with their people and not in a way that makes the patrons of the church feel like they are just a player in the game of chess and that player's job is to be

Oatmeal Energy Bites

I have tried a few times and failed to save this on my computer, so I'm going to try here. Please see below:  Oatmeal Energy Bites Ingredients:  1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter 1 1/3 cups rolled oats 1 tbsp ground flaxseed 1 tbsp chia seed 1/4 cup shredded coconut 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips 1 scoop protein powder (I use Shakeology) Instructions:  Mix all ingredients together well.  Using 1 tbsp of mixture, roll into balls.  Freeze to enjoy later.  Hope you enjoy it!

Workout #27

So, here's the challenge. And above, you can see my entry. Kenzie had done crosswords or circle a words (I can't remember) with Gigi and I snapped a pic of her doing it. I absolutely love the design of the sketch we were supposed to use for this lo. It allows for a simple, yet stunning layout. It allows room for journaling as you can see that I added as well as plenty of negative space! And the breakdown goes like this, picture was taken from my collection, background paper was from k and company the best of k and company pad, the circles were literally just picked out of my scrap box. I didn't even look at the papers, i just did a random pick. the lettering was taken from an old sheet of alphas i had and I think they worked out great!!! Simple yet Stunning! Thank you Scrap Fit for the challenge.
